Rusia-IDK's Mori Releases Double Single

Listen to 'Lovers to Stranger' and 'Dance'.

Madrid-based artist Mori, a central figure at the label and avant-pop collective Rusia-IDK, has released a new double single titled ‘Lovers to Stranger’ and ‘Dance’.

Martín Moreno Rivera, known as Mori, initially emerged as the face of Rusia-IDK, touring with label mate Rusowsky. Together, they have directed videos for artists such as Ralphie Choo, AMORE, and bb trickz.

These two new tracks signify a creative breakthrough for Mori. Collaborating closely with his friend and frequent co-creator Roy Borland, a producer from El Royale, the songs exhibit a distinct low-res, laid-back vibe.

‘Lovers to Strangers’ presents Mori’s interpretation of a “classic croonerish ballad” featuring lyrics that sometimes feel overly candid, while ‘DANCE’ explores the theme of shedding inhibitions on the dancefloor. The songs aim to highlight the flaws and complexities of the human experience.

Mori explains, “The core of these songs was the choice to prioritize emotion above all else. Above perfection, control, and the conventional notion of what a song should be. The vocals were captured in a single take because it was important that I was genuinely expressing my feelings. ‘DANCE’ was nearly freestyled as I aimed to fully release my inhibitions and access a subconscious realm where inspiration could flow freely.”

‘Lovers to Stranger’ and ‘Dance’ signify a new beginning for Mori, who until now has only released a few tracks, which he wished he hadn’t. “This is the first time I feel I can confidently stand by my music, and in a sense, I feel like I'm releasing music for the first time.”

The dual release is accompanied by a two-part music video, which Mori self-directed alongside label mate TRISTÁN!, drawing visual inspiration from early 2000s iPod silhouette ads.
