tendai has released an engaging new single titled ‘SMN’.
The Ivor Novello nominated songwriter unveiled his project ‘THE RAIN’ in 2024 and has recently hinted at his comeback with several new singles.
The latest release ‘SMN’ continues this journey of growth, showcasing tender, soulful songwriting that reflects on a particular period in his life.
In this track, tendai adopts a contemplative stance, using his songwriting as both a reflection of his personal experiences and a connection between two distinct chapters of his life.
tendai remarks...
I composed this song about myself, during a period of introspection concerning my identity, both personal and as an artist. I perceive it as a dialogue between my younger and older selves. Although ‘SMN’ is my second name, it was the name I used for most of my early life. This changed when I adopted my first name, ‘tendai’, as an artist.
For me, ‘SMN’ represents my youth, while ‘tendai’ symbolizes my adulthood. I was intrigued by the idea of writing a song from the perspective of my younger self: ‘do you still say my name,’ which translates to ‘do you still recognize me, are we still the same person?’
