After a four-year hiatus since their previous EP ‘Celestial Bodies’, the Cambridge quartet Lemondaze presents ‘subtext’, which marks a subtle evolution in their sound. This five-track release combines an immersive quality with a cathartic essence. The opening track ‘polari’ introduces itself with sparkling vibrations, soon joined by guitars that expand the sound. Following this, ‘c=bain’ places its bassline at the forefront, creating an eerie atmosphere before it fades into darkness after an intense conclusion. The latter half of the EP highlights the most noticeable progression from earlier works, particularly in the frenetic beats of the final track ‘terra’. Always striking, expertly layered, yet never overwhelming, this release offers a healing return.
