David Byrne has released a playlist for “people who dislike Christmas music.”
The songwriter is a renowned figure in contemporary music, with a body of work that spans from new wave to afrobeat, highlife, R&B, and more.
Earlier this year, David Byrne launched his new album ‘Who Is The Sky?’ and in September, he married writer and hedge fund manager Mala Gaonkar.
As he prepares for an international tour next year, the musician plans to take some time off this Christmas and has created a new alternative Christmas songs playlist to accompany his relaxation.
The 32-track playlist, titled ‘David Byrne Radio Presents: Christmas Music for People Who Hate Christmas Music’, is currently available on streaming services, along with an explanation of its diverse sound.
“This playlist isn’t focused on the solstice, nor does it follow a Pagan theme,” he shared with his fans. “It’s filled with lively, entertaining songs that lightly critique and reference the holidays. Enjoy!”
The playlist features selections by Run-DMC and Prince as well as tracks from FINNEAS and Sufjan Stevens, with a song from Macy Gray included as well.
It's a thoughtful Advent gift from David Byrne, and you can listen to it below.
