The Molotovs concluded their breakout year with a viral pop-up performance in Central London over the weekend.

The sibling duo – Matt and Issey Cartlidge – surprised last-minute attendees in Soho with an impressive set, mixing The Molotovs’ sharp Mod-influenced indie punk with a selection of festive covers.

Including a singalong of Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, hundreds of onlookers paused as traffic struggled to navigate past.

Set against the backdrop of Berwick Street, a renowned music landmark famously featured on the cover of Oasis’s ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’.

The performance saw The Molotovs collaborating with The Big Issue in support of the charity’s ‘Stop, Talk and Support’ Christmas initiative.

Matt comments: “One of the tragedies of the challenges facing society today is that many individuals get overlooked. The Big Issue does incredible work aiding people, but it’s up to the rest of us to ensure that vendors, just like everyone else, are genuine members of the community. It takes so little time to pause and chat with someone, yet too often we pass by, focused on our phones or where we’re headed. We all need to ‘stop, talk and support’ more regularly.”

Russell Blackman, Managing Director of Big Issue, adds: “We’re extremely grateful to The Molotovs for rallying support for our vendors during their most crucial sales weekend of the year. There’s nothing quite like a guerrilla gig to encourage people to stop, strike up a conversation, and take a moment from their busy shopping to engage with local vendors. Please support your nearby Big Issue vendor this winter as they brave the elements to earn a vital income.”
