Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, who is going through a divorce, embarks on a solo project with his book about churches.

Felix Mackenzie-Barrow from Divorce is embarking on a solo venture titled Book Of Churches.

The Nottingham-based artist has been developing solo concepts for the past 18 months, aiming to push his creative boundaries.

He practices writing a new song each day, recording it the next, and gathering the material as he progresses. Felix subsequently gave the home-recorded tapes to Richie Kennedy (Interpol, The Last Dinner Party) for mixing.

The new album, 'Book Of Churches,' is set to be released on March 6th, with the songwriting characterized as “incredibly DIY” and “somewhat naive.”

The subdued, folk-inspired single ‘Song By A Stranger’ perfectly captures his style, evoking a moody, twilight atmosphere reminiscent of early Leonard Cohen albums.

Felix remarks, “‘Song By A Stranger’ serves as the album's opening track because it felt representative of the approach I wanted to take. I jotted down a note in my phone while sitting in the back of the van about a beam of light casting like an arm across the seats in front of me. When I returned home for a few days off, I wrote the song on the first night. The following day I recorded it and left it untouched until Richie Kennedy mixed it in late 2025.”

He elaborates on the album: “It feels somewhat like a travelogue. In a sense, while writing these songs, I was reaching out to someone I was no longer in a relationship with—just saying hello. At times, the songs were efforts to find a North Star to guide me. This reflects the vastness of the world and the value of the few connections we have with others, which can be felt so deeply over great distances and through time. Book of Churches serves as a metaphor for my emotions while creating these songs. They represent my interpretation of what church means to me.”
