The Scottish band The Twilight Sad is set to release their new album, ‘IT’S THE LONG GOODBYE,’ on March 27th.
Their music is characterized by a unique blend of intense soundscapes and deeply personal lyrics. After making a comeback late last year, The Twilight Sad introduced their fierce and relentless single ‘Waiting For The Phone Call,’ featuring additional guitar work by Robert Smith from The Cure.
The forthcoming album ‘IT’S THE LONG GOODBYE’ promises to offer a profound experience. Lead vocalist and lyricist James Graham experienced the loss of his mother to early-onset frontotemporal dementia, an event that triggered a decline in his mental health.
For Graham, music became a way to cope with this intense grief, as he shared his thoughts with bandmate Andy MacFarlane. The earliest compositions for the upcoming record were developed seven years ago, and the extended creation process allowed The Twilight Sad to address significant emotional challenges.
“It had to encapsulate all the emotions I was experiencing,” Graham explains.
Set for release on March 27th through Rock Action Records, ‘IT’S THE LONG GOODBYE’ is available for preorder here.
As James notes, “Previously, I’ve employed many metaphors in my lyrics. This time, there’s less of that. The album is strongly impacted by my mental health, grief, and loss, along with the necessity to display strength when feeling otherwise. It tells a very human story that I believe everyone can relate to – everyone faces loss at some point. Everyone wrestles with their place in life.”
The band will embark on a tour this Spring, with notable performances including London’s Roundhouse on April 30th and two shows at the Barrowlands in Glasgow on May 5th and 6th.
“To know that I’m expressing feelings that resonate with others is incredibly powerful,” James shares. “I strive to be a relatable individual who discusses experiences that can occur, providing an opportunity for others to realize they are not alone. I want this record to convey that it emerges from a place of genuine emotion. It serves as a chance to share my journey and to move forward.”
