Alice Costelloe — How Can I

With less than a month until the release of Alice Costelloe’s eagerly anticipated debut album, ‘Move On With The Year’, the London singer-songwriter has unveiled the record's final single. Featuring tambourine shakes and bright synths, ‘How Can I’ offers a sweet piece of indie-pop that moves with an effortless charm, contrasting sharply with the song’s theme—Costelloe's unconventional relationship with her estranged father. Influenced by artists like Cate Le Bon and Andy Shauf, ‘How Can I’ is a candid and intriguing teaser for the upcoming LP. (Attila Peter)

Flip Top Head — Porcelain Plugs

Brighton’s experimental group Flip Top Head is back with ‘Porcelain Plugs’—our last glimpse into their upcoming sophomore EP—delivered in the grand, eclectic style we’ve come to anticipate from the six-member band. This latest track embodies art-rock at its finest, featuring intertwining guitar melodies, fluid rhythms, and even nods to Sylvia Plath within its four-minute duration. With an Independent Venue Week tour approaching later this month, FTH are starting the new year in impressive fashion. (Peter Martin)

      KuleeAngee — Pretty Love

Kicking off 2026 positively, Scottish duo KuleeAngee—comprised of Duncan Grant and Keshav Kanabar—returns with their new single 'Pretty Love', a delightful mix of guitar-led sound and acid house beats. Built around an electronic rhythm, the track keeps lyrics simple, ensuring it’s bound to get you moving. Ideal for a bustling dance floor or a late-night gathering, 'Pretty Love' emphasizes straightforwardness, inviting listeners to enjoy the moment—a fitting mantra for the year ahead.       SISTRA — Double Edged Sword

Influenced by the vibrant soundscapes of art-pop icons Caroline Polachek and Oklou, electronic duo SISTRA returns with their latest track, ‘Double Edged Sword.’ This lively hyperpop-infused garage track features bright vocals soaring over a sea of noise in the form of blurred synth pads, while the slicing sound of sword swipes enhances the music. Choppy ghetto-tech samples create an engaging backdrop beneath the sparkling technicolour arrangements, adding a much-needed dose of brightness to this dreary January. (A. L. Noonan)

      Ellur — Dream Of Mine

The final preview from her upcoming debut LP ‘At Home In My Mind’, ‘Dream Of Mine’ reveals another captivating aspect of Halifax indie artist Ellur’s subtly mysterious songwriting. Ethereal yet grounded, it merges Americana-inspired warmth with introspective lyrics, addressing the struggle between personal aspirations and societal pressures. Ellur's soft yet determined vocal performance blends seamlessly with hazy guitars and minimalist production, allowing the song's emotional depth to resonate fully. (Gemma Cockrell)

      Kenzo Jae — mmpa

Kenzo Jae’s first release of 2026, ‘mmpa’ fuses two cultural influences that significantly shaped nearly every ‘90s child: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and OutKast. Featuring beautiful vocals and a catchy hook that pays homage to some of hip-hop’s most melodic classics, the Bradford-born alternative rapper confidently steps into more mainstream territory, transforming a somber narrative about drugs and fame into an irresistibly catchy tune. Referring to Kenzo Jae as a ‘local hidden gem’ may soon be a modest description. (Gabriele Naddeo)
