Anika is set to release her new album titled ‘Abyss’ on April 4th.
The artist, originally from London and currently based in Berlin, has promised a confrontational tone in this album, which reflects her reaction to the growing negativity in today's world. Anika describes this work as an act of rebellion, showcasing some of her most urgent pieces to date.
Scheduled for release on April 4th, the recording sessions took place at the renowned Hansa Studios in Berlin, a location where artists like Depeche Mode and David Bowie have also worked.
Completed in just a few days, Anika remarks on her creation: “With everything happening right now, I feel the need for this rebellion.”
She elaborates: “There’s a lot happening in the world, and you have to observe it through a screen that you've invited into your home, like a vampire lurking at your door, then process it, form an opinion, and express it publicly…”
Referred to as “a call to action”, the album is introduced with the urgency of ‘Hearsay’, which addresses the loss of identity amidst the overwhelming presence of sensational news outlets.
Anika explains: “This song focuses on media moguls – it’s about the influence of media, whether it’s social, television, or beyond – we are as captivated by it as we ever were, and some individuals are taking advantage of this for their own benefit. Parasites feasting on the public's vitality — definitely inspired by PJ Harvey.”
Tune in now.
