Canned Pineapple's 'Elvis' Turns a Long-Standing Narrative Upside Down

It serves as a response song to Elvis Costello's 'Alison'...

Brighton indie pop band Canned Pineapple has released their new single ‘Elvis’.

Known for their energetic live performances, the band will be supporting Skinner on an upcoming UK tour. Looking ahead, Canned Pineapple is set to play at London’s Sebright Arms on March 21st for a special event.

This performance will coincide with the launch of their new EP ‘Big Break’, which offers a self-aware perspective on life in a band in 2025. With a playful take on the “rollercoaster” journey of Canned Pineapple, the material pairs amusing in-jokes with insightful observations.

Take the new track ‘Elvis’. It acts as a sort of response to Elvis Costello’s iconic song ‘Alison’, examining the central relationship from a different angle – particularly since one of the band members bears a resemblance to Costello.

‘Elvis’ is an upbeat guitar pop track that charges forward with its catchy chorus, showcasing the band’s mischievous energy.

      The band shares…

‘Elvis’ was conceived as a kind of sequel to one of our shared favorite songs, ‘Alison’ by Elvis Costello; it narrates Costello’s encounter with an ex-lover who now has a new husband. We found it amusing to imagine Seán as Alison’s new spouse, especially since he often gets comments about looking like Costello with his glasses and suit. Perhaps Alison married Seán because she couldn’t quite move past Costello. Poor Seán, but… Who could blame her!
