Just prior to the holiday break, we had the opportunity to welcome East London singer-songwriter Hak Baker to the KEF Music Gallery in London for an intimate performance of his EP ‘Nostalgia Death’ accompanied by an interview.
This EP comes after the successful release of Hak’s full-length album ‘Worlds End FM’ last year, which powerfully depicts a world on the edge of collapse, driven by elements of sound system and punk music.
In ‘Nostalgia Death’, Hak steps away from the “inferno,” confronting his vices and working to break both generational and personal curses. The announcement of the EP was marked by the release of the lead single ‘LUVLY’, an upbeat track that delves into how a deficiency of self-love can hinder the ability to genuinely love and connect with others.
You can secure tickets for Hak Baker’s tour screening of ‘HAKEEM’ at Everyman Cinema, which includes a live Q&A, HERE.
Hak reflects on the release, stating: “Love is ‘LUVLY’. It's what we all seek. It makes the world go round. Yet, for some, it remains elusive. Like wifi in a tunnel, it’s simply out of reach. My past and the longing for love are my reasons. I craved it from my family but didn’t receive it as I desired. I witnessed it in films, books, or when seeing nuclear families at school or visiting friends’ homes. However, if you despise yourself and are constantly engaging in self-destructive behavior, how can you truly accept love? Until I turn this frown into a smile, until I alter this flawed mentality and self-sabotage, love will remain absent. The expression of anguish suits me, ‘Luvly’. It doesn’t, but this forthcoming project addresses: the shedding of the old self. I believe it’s time for transformation. Starting it is the challenge. One day.”
Tune in now…
