Noel Gallagher Slams Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Performance

You won't be seeing Oasis take the stage at the Super Bowl anytime soon.

Just days after Kendrick Lamar's contentious Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, presented by Apple Music, Noel Gallagher expressed his disapproval, describing it as “absolute nonsense!”

In an interview with TalkSPORT, the Britpop icon voiced his thoughts. “I didn’t watch the whole thing, I just turned it off…. There were like 300 people getting out of a car in the first two minutes,” he stated, while criticizing the extravagance of the Super Bowl spectacle. “I’m not a fan of the halftime nonsense; it’s usually artists I don’t care for… I never watch it. I’m just not interested.”

Noel’s dislike appears to also include corporate America’s dominance over music, as well as broader entertainment and sports. “Americans are taking over our sport,” he said. “They’ve taken over the Premier League, and they will also take over the Champions League. Trust me, in 20 years, it’ll all be nonsense.”

Regardless of Noel Gallagher's opinions, Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance drew a total of 133.5 million viewers in the U.S. across television and streaming, surpassing Michael Jackson’s appearance at Super Bowl XXVII in 1993 as the most-watched halftime show in the country.

In a review of the halftime performance, CLASH editor Robin Murray noted that Kendrick Lamar successfully intertwined local mythology and chaos in a dazzling set primarily centered on his latest album, ‘GNX’.

“There was a notable change at this year’s Super Bowl, with previous anti-racism messages replaced by CHOOSE LOVE at the sidelines. Kendrick Lamar chose hate – this era may not have the lasting impact of ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, but it’s just as significant.”
