Alessia Cara – Amore e Iperbole

Alessia Cara is back with her fourth studio album, ‘Love & Hyperbole’, in which she candidly examines various facets of falling in love, ranging from passionate nights to the doubts about allowing someone new into her life and the fear that someone might "run" away. It is fittingly set to be released on Valentine’s Day (February 14).

The raw emotions Alessia expresses throughout this album are both inspiring and uplifting.

The GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter from Toronto has artfully captured the joy of discovering “the one.” However, Alessia also bravely delves into the complex feelings that love can evoke, such as contemplating past errors in the captivating track ‘Dead Man’.

The inclusion of ‘Hyperbole’ in the album's title reflects the intense emotions Alessia experienced while crafting these songs. Such powerful sounds were somewhat anticipated, as Alessia cites The Beatles (from their ‘Abbey Road’ period) and Fleetwood Mac as influences for ‘Love & Hyperbole’.

‘Go Outside’ portrays a period in Alessia’s life when she felt isolated from the world but managed to break free from those feelings. The previous single ‘Dead Man’ stands out as a high point in the album, where Alessia reminisces about past relationships that have left a significant mark on her. In addition, ‘(Isn’t It) Obvious’ features a guitar solo by John Mayer, an artist who inspired her during the songwriting process. She sings: “Fears are only constellations / Only glowing if we make them.” The song addresses the physical distance from a loved one and the longing that accompanies it.

‘Fire’ combines piano and guitar to produce a lullaby-like melody, evoking the bliss of falling in love.

Across 14 tracks, Alessia Cara vividly describes the experience of falling deeply in love and even developing an infatuation, as heard in ‘Slow Motion’. We also hear her concerns expressed in ‘Run, Run’, while ‘Clearly’ serves as a tribute to profound forgiveness.

Alessia noted that the process of creating this album was different from her earlier works, experiencing a shift in her songwriting approach. She adopted a more open mindset, which is evident in the music.

‘Love & Hyperbole’ is anthemic, introspective, and showcases Alessia’s confidence as an artist. While it contrasts with her earlier hits like ‘Here’, ‘Love & Hyperbole’ is sophisticated, sincere, and tender.
