Dubai is a city characterized by extravagance, where the skyline glistens like an illusion and luxury is not just a choice, but the norm. Beneath the imposing glass structures lies an energy that resonates throughout the sparkling shores and stunning architecture. A visit to Playa Pacha at the FIVE LUXE hotel, where Pacha ICONS transforms the event scene while embracing the elements of beloved rave culture recognized worldwide. Eager to explore what they had in store, CLASH flew with Emirates to experience not just the Pacha ICONS event but also the offerings of FIVE LUXE JBR.
Arriving in Dubai on Thursday morning after departing from London Gatwick the previous evening, I felt a bit worn out due to the long flight and lack of sleep (though the comfort of the Emirates A380 somewhat eased the fatigue). A brief twenty-minute ride in a Tesla brought me to FIVE LUXE, where the check-in process was effortless. After popping a bottle of champagne upon my arrival and enjoying a warm welcome and a tour of my suite for the weekend, I took a moment to relax on the balcony while enjoying astonishing views of the shoreline and the iconic Ain Dubai, the world’s largest observation wheel. The suite was adorned with chocolate treats, a fruit platter, and a custom-embroidered silk robe, making it easy to settle in.
After a nap to recover from my exhaustion, we visited the Paradiso Dubai bar on the top floor for a social mixer. Recognized as the world’s best rooftop bar, it offered not only meticulously crafted signature cocktails but also breathtaking panoramic views of the skyline.
After perusing the menu at Paradiso Dubai (I may have indulged in everything on the menu), we were directed to a cozy corner on the top floor where the atmospheric, red-lit establishment called Ronin awaited us. Run by celebrity chef Sin Keun Choi, the restaurant offered a remarkable Japanese dining experience. I started with California Maki, then savored Salmon Teriyaki with steamed rice, and concluded with a selection of delightful mochi. The ambiance, created by the illumination, fine art, and shimmering reflections, was stunning, showcasing immense attention to architectural detail.
As the evening continued, the highly anticipated Pacha ICONS set by BLOND:ISH approached. This bold, multi-genre, open-air musical festival brings renowned international talents to Playa Pacha Pool and Beach Club at FIVE LUXE along Jumeirah Beach Road, blending the vibrancy of the UAE and Ibiza into a captivating party atmosphere. BLOND:ISH, whose real name is Vivie-ann Bakos, hails from a small Canadian town and has become a prominent figure in electronic music over the past decade. Taking the stage at 11pm, she delivered an energetic set, announcing her headlining residency at Ibiza’s Pacha for the summer that same day.
A fusion of ethereal vocals, cosmic house beats, and world rhythm influences kept the audience entranced, the energy only intensifying throughout the night. BLOND:ISH’s charismatic stage presence affirmed her status as one of the top performers. The event felt jubilant; with it still being winter in the UK, standing in twenty-degree heat at the start of February was exhilarating. Could this be the future of winter raving?
Showcasing diverse musical styles, BLOND:ISH performed a mix of her own tracks, including her new single “Can’t Let You Go” featuring Bantu, alongside remixed hits—my favorite being an afro-house remix of Moby’s 1999 classic "Natural Blues." With past guests like Keinemusik duo Adam Port and Rampa, PAWSA, and Marco Carola, the upcoming four months will bring performances from Black Coffee, Camelphat, and Rampa as part of the Pacha ICONs series.
However, this trip was about more than just music. The entire FIVE LUXE experience—luxurious suites, poolside indulgence, and a sensory getaway where wellness blends with hedonism—offers a multitude of features to explore. The hotel is a beachfront gem, boasting 382 stylish rooms, 116 residences, multiple dining and nightlife venues, a private beach, spa, and a cutting-edge gym, all reflecting exceptional infrastructure and meticulous design details. Bright lights, glamour, and luxury abound.
As awareness of environmental issues grows, some may justifiably question the environmental cost of such luxury. The straightforward answer: minimal impact. FIVE LUXE prides itself on sustainability practices, utilizing eco-friendly materials, conserving resources, employing solar panels, and implementing water-saving and recycling systems. Achieving 89 points for LEED Platinum (BD+C), this remarkable accomplishment makes them the highest-rated 5-star hotel under LEED v4.
With all the perks of FIVE LUXE, a quick visit to the ReFIVE spa on Saturday morning helped shake off my hangover, where I enjoyed a relaxing massage along with detox
