Learn About… The Pill

"Before we perform live, the key is to get as hyped up as possible, much like Jack Nicholson before he filmed that famous scene in The Shining." What were the first songs, albums, or artists that you became obsessed with? Lily: While it wasn’t the first album I was obsessed with (since I didn’t wait until 2017 to discover music), I was definitely captivated by the Baby Driver soundtrack—it really helped me walk super fast to college every day. Lottie: Speaking of soundtracks, the album I’ve listened to the most in my life is probably the score from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas.' Every single track is a masterpiece, and I refuse to limit my listening to just Christmas or Halloween—I'm playing that album year-round, 365 days a year. You recently performed at one of DIY’s Hello 2025 shows at the Old Blue Last, and things got a little wild... How do you prepare for a live performance? Do you have any rituals, unusual rider requests, or hype songs? And what can people who haven’t seen The Pill live expect from a performance? We had such a blast at that show! Thanks for having us and embracing our chaos; it definitely became a bit wild. Before going live, we focus on getting as fired up as we can, similar to Jack Nicholson's energy in that famous Shining scene—remember that clip of him jumping around with the axe? That’s us! Lily: I always need at least four Red Bulls, and I’m thrilled if there’s a bottle of gin nearby. Lottie: I keep it simple; I just need a few beers. And we always listen to ABBA—no exceptions. For anyone thinking about attending a Pill show who hasn’t yet (seriously, where have you been?), just be prepared for a lot of noise, shouting, chaos, and plenty of laughter. What are your worst musical habits? We openly admit that restringing our guitars doesn’t happen as often as it should. We know, it’s terrible. The worst part is we’re always surprised when one breaks—how could that happen?! What can we say? We’re just girls dealing with old guitar strings. Lastly, if DIY is coming over for dinner, what will you make? We’ll provide a bottle of wine and a pack of Marlboro Golds—our treat!
