Last week, Skepta debuted his third and final collaboration with Puma, offering the highly coveted mint green puffer jacket along with the newest Skope hiking-inspired Mid Boot in a giveaway. The announcement was made on the Outlander Instagram, giving fans a brief 48-hour window to search for a token shaped like the SK Puma hexagonal logo.
Clues pointed to various token locations, including the site of the premiere for the movie Skepta directed, Tribal Mark (under a designated seat in Everyman Moorgate), a popular shopping spot for Skepta and Drake (the OVO store in Soho), and the location where Skepta and Slawn might enjoy tea (BeauBeaus Cafe). Tokens were hidden in places like cinema seats and street signs, and as new clues were released throughout the 48 hours, they were replenished to curb hoarding.
On Saturday, fans lined up outside Offspring in Kings Cross, tokens ready in hand, eager to meet Skepta and see if they had won the puffer or the boots. I arrived at noon, an hour ahead of the 1pm start, and found myself fifth in line, thrilled to meet the greatest of all time in the UK rap scene. As we stood in the spring sunshine, presenter Morf engaged those in line with questions about Skepta and streetwear to keep the atmosphere lively. Like at most meet-and-greet events, superfans were present, and during the nearly two-hour wait, we conversed about our favorite artist. The excitement was palpable.
As more individuals donned the unmistakable mint green puffers, anticipation mounted. DJ Maximum was spinning hits inside the store, and at around 2:15 PM, Skepta arrived with his security team, and the doors finally opened for the fans. People lined up to trade their tokens for either a puffer or the shoes (it seemed the puffer was the most desired), and then queued again to meet Skepta.
When I made my way upstairs, I noticed everyone waiting to redeem their tokens, so I bypassed this and went straight to meet Skepta. He was calm and incredibly kind, even agreeing to a brief interview for my TikTok (which you can watch here).
Wanting to keep it short due to the people waiting outside, I expressed my gratitude for his time and shook his hand. As I walked away, I heard Skepta inquire if I had received anything from the giveaway yet. I showed him my token and explained that I hadn't, and he asked for my size, telling me to hang around so he could give me one of his own puffers. I was in disbelief and waited to the side as the meet and greet continued. While speaking with some of Skepta’s team and fans, I realized this is typical of Skepta, who often goes the extra mile for his supporters.
A short while later, Skepta handed me a large puffer, ensured it was the correct size, and returned to greeting others. I left with the shoes, a signed poster, a personally delivered Skepta x Puma puffer jacket, and an interview with arguably the best rapper in the country. While I work as a music journalist, presenter, and content creator, it all stems from my foundation as a fan, and on Saturday, I was Skepta’s biggest supporter.
The shoes are currently on sale for £200, while the puffer is available only in black for £390. If you wanted the green one, you simply had to be there!
