Billy Nomates is set to release her new album ‘Metalhorse’ on May 16th.
The songwriter, Tor Maries, released her impressive second album ‘CACTI’ in 2023, but soon faced a challenging period in her life. She used music as a way to cope, often finding herself tested, but she continued to persevere.
Planning to record her third album with her full live band at Paco Loco in Seville, Spain, Tor received the heartbreaking news of her father's passing.
“We were extremely close, and our connection was through music,” she reflects on her relationship with her father. “He was my safe haven in the world. Even when he was in the care home and his condition was deteriorating, I would visit him, and he would ask about my activities. I would play him the new demos or share my radio appearances. It marked a bright spot amid everything, as we had something positive to discuss.”
The record, produced by James Trevascus, offers a transformative journey, fueled by a strong sense of intention.
The new single ‘The Test’ is currently available, serving as the first glimpse into her next chapter—it's a powerful piece of songwriting that merges Tor’s pop influences with a robust, live band vibe.
“It’s about striving against the odds and feeling as though someone on the other side is supporting you, and if they recognize you, that’s the test,” she explains. “I truly sense that when we perform it live. With all that’s happening, it’s hard to believe we’re making it through.”
A new video has also been released, created by the album’s creative director, TomSkipp.
