Matt Berninger, the frontman of The National, has announced the upcoming release of his new solo album titled ‘Get Sunk,’ set to drop on May 30 through Book / Concord Records. Co-written and produced with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien, this second solo album follows his 2020 debut, ‘Serpentine Prison.’ It features contributions from various friends and collaborators, including Meg Duffy of Hand Habits, Julia Laws from Ronboy, Beirut trumpeter Kyle Resnick, producer Booker T Jones, and The Walkmen's Walter Martin and Paul Maroon. The ten-track album emerged after what Berninger described as “a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust” where he grew tired of questioning his identity. As stated in the press release, while it isn’t strictly autobiographical, “the narrator is processing how he became himself.” The album is previewed by its intricate first single, ‘Bonnet Of Pins,’ which you can listen to below.
The tracklist for ‘Get Sunk’ is as follows:
1. Inland Ocean
2. No Love
3. Bonnet of Pins
4. Frozen Oranges
5. Breaking Into Acting (feat. Hand Habits)
6. Nowhere Special
7. Little by Little
8. Junk
9. Silver Jeep (feat. Ronboy)
10. Times of Difficulty
