Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with Tara Kumar & Foundation FM
Kumar Klub is a collection of events curated by DJs Tara Kumar and Mango, merging music, food, and community. Drawing inspiration from their Irish-Indian background, Kumar Klub reflects the hospitality of both South Asian and Irish cultures, ensuring no one leaves without a meal, while also highlighting Ireland’s distinctive nightlife history. In the 1980s, licensing laws mandated that nightclubs pause music and turn on lights halfway through the night to serve food, a requirement for maintaining their alcohol licenses.
Tara's dedication to music, food, and fostering community was influenced by her upbringing in an Irish-Indian pub during the 90s in Australia, where she regularly served pints of Guinness alongside curry.
Fueled by her passion for hospitality and musical gatherings, Kumar Klub has organized various experiences, from South Asian horror film nights with Indian-inspired snacks to a recent supper club and disco event in collaboration with adidas UK at Shankey’s, an Indian-Irish restaurant in East London.
This past weekend, Kumar Klub celebrated its inaugural London St. Patrick’s Day party at Foundation FM studios, transforming the venue into a tribute to contemporary Irish culture. Adorned with green foil curtains, the event featured a Guinness bar with pints topped with the Kumar Klub logo, along with DJ sets from Tara, Mango, and fellow Irish DJs Onai and Shiv.
The lineup also included a live traditional music session led by the Irish language group Croí na Gaeilge, tooth gems by Claddagh Gems, and a mini exhibition from the popular Instagram page Accidentally Ireland.
No Kumar Klub event would be complete without food. Kumar Klub collaborated with Vegetarian Brown Girls to serve a unique Tayto Chaat, combining Irish Tayto crisps with Indian street food chaat.
