Duendita from New York will launch a new project titled 'a strong desire to survive' on April 4th through 10k.
This ten-track collection follows last year’s 'the mind is a miracle' and emerged from duendita’s transformative experience during their first extended stay in Berlin, where they connected with longtime collaborators Noah Becker and Anton Remy.
“We used to jam frequently at Baketown, our recording studio and art space in Schoenberg. It was a period when I would write on their beats or at the piano, and I couldn’t stop writing about the pain,” they say. “All these hits came out reflecting how deeply I wanted to live and overcome everything.”
In conjunction with the project announcement, duendita presents a melodic piano ballad titled ‘baby teeth’; the piece concludes with a resonant harmony featuring nine vocalists, all recorded in duendita’s bedroom. About the new track, duendita comments: “‘baby teeth’ celebrates the joy of healing from the darkest experiences. It’s a piano vocal hit about feeling safe and empowered.”
The visual concept for the broader project is just as impactful as its musical experience. Duendita collaborated with friend and artist Kiyomi Taylor to design the cover art, which depicts a deep-sea creature that has adapted to survive in a grotesque manner.
“She’s developed long nails, gills, scales, and menacing teeth to endure. At first glance, the man in the image appears to be her next meal, but in truth, she wishes she could embrace someone without causing harm,” duendita explains. “This image reflects the project’s themes of survival, transformation, and the struggle to love and be loved.”
