Check out the new single 'Villain'.
On June 13th, Annahstasia will release her debut album, ‘Tether’, through drink sum wtr.
At the beginning of the year, CLASH highlighted Annahstasia as an emerging artist on our Ones to Watch list. Based in Los Angeles, she crafts torch songs and cosmic hymns that fall under the realm of delicate folk. Her introspective lyrics resonate through weathered melodies, allowing listeners to witness a ritual of profound change before arriving at a state of equilibrium.
Annahstasia documented her creative resurgence in last year’s ‘Surface Tension’ EP, which served as a precursor to her first full-length album exploring the aftermath of the “romantic war” she elaborated on in that collection.
The creation of ‘Tether’ was primarily instinctual, capturing live takes recorded at the renowned Valentine Studios in Los Angeles. She collaborated with producers Jason Lader (known for work with ANOHNI and the Johnsons, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey), Andrew Lappin (Cassandra Jenkins, L’Rain, Luna Li), and Aaron Liao (Liv.e, Moses Sumney, Raveena), alongside a variety of skilled musicians, including guest appearances by Obongjayar and Grammy-nominated aja monet.
Along with the album announcement comes the emotional new single ‘Villain’. Annahstasia reflects on the album introduction, stating: “We are all composed of both shadow and light. From certain perspectives, we have all played the villain in our stories; we are all doing our best to navigate survival.”
