UK singer-songwriter Nina Cobham is set to release her debut album, ‘Basis Of A Pinky Promise’, on July 10th through AWAL.
Since her first appearance in 2019, and with three EPs that have contributed to her growth, Cobham has created a rich auditory experience featuring sun-kissed, Bossa-infused tracks that alternate between English and Spanish. This debut album represents a milestone in her journey as a songwriter, reflecting the challenging transitions that characterize one’s twenties.
Central to the nine-track collection is Cobham's exploration of trust issues – both in romantic and platonic relationships. “I’ve always found it difficult,” she shares, “but opting to trust – whether in love, friendships, or in oneself – is incredibly significant. A pinky promise may seem trivial, but it carries meaning. That’s the essence of this record.”
Along with the album announcement, the title track, ‘Pinky Promise’, co-written with Oscar Scheller, illustrates the delicate balance between light-heartedness and a sensible caution that pervades the album.
“’Pinky Promise’ originated from the idea of choosing to be open and ready to risk everything in a relationship, based on something regarded as ‘childish’ like a pinky promise; fully committing to trust based on a seemingly flimsy gesture, while taking it seriously. It’s about diving in despite any fears or doubts. While it’s playful and cheerful, it also includes lyrics about trust issues, creating a contrast that merges at this playful intersection.”
This new phase captures Cobham at age 23 – youthful, in love, and still evolving.
