BC Camplight will unveil his new album, ‘A Sober Conversation’, on June 27th.
The songwriter's outstanding 2023 album, ‘The Last Rotation Of Earth’, received immense praise and coincided with the largest headline shows of his career. This intensely emotional work candidly explored themes related to a breakup.
The forthcoming album, ‘A Sober Conversation’, delves even deeper into personal struggles. BC Camplight, whose real name is Brian Christinzio, has decided to confront his experiences of childhood abuse during his time at a New Jersey summer camp.
“I spent 30 years being fearful of opening that door and concerned about the consequences once I did. Now, I’ve opened the door. To some degree, this album represents what lay on the other side. I hope it aids in my healing, but this album is also for anyone grappling with finding their courage and their true selves,” he explains.
He further notes, “During the period of ‘The Last Rotation’… I came to the realization that I was stuck in a perpetual childhood, constantly messed up and trying to escape responsibility and my troubling thoughts. It culminated in an existential crisis… I was seeking meaning, contemplating parenthood… I’ve been evading my issues for a long time. You can either pursue life milestones or chase after a dime bag – you can’t do both. I’ve chosen not to allow myself to be defeated any longer.”
‘A Sober Conversation’ is set for release on June 27th, with BC Camplight scheduled to embark on a full UK tour this Autumn, including a headline performance at London’s Roundhouse on November 5th.
In anticipation, the songwriter has released the lead single, ‘Two Legged Dog’, featuring Abigail Morris from The Last Dinner Party. The track beautifully balances BC Camplight's raw emotion with the ethereal quality of his collaborator.
Abigail Morris remarked on the song: “I was incredibly excited when Brian reached out to ask me to be part of this track. I’ll always remember the first time I heard BC Camplight – my band was driving from London to Brighton, and I was nursing a serious hangover in the back seat when ‘I Only Drink When I’m Drunk’ came on my Discover Weekly. I replayed it for the entire journey and spent the subsequent week engrossed in his entire discography. Singing this track was a joy, and I felt truly honored to contribute to such a compelling and intimate song. Thank you, Brian – you are the greatest of all time.”
