For Matty Reynolds, "Timbuktu" Shows That Distance Enhances Affection - Atwood Magazine

Distance does not deter singer/songwriter Matty Reynolds from seeking love, as demonstrated in his heartfelt new single, “Timbuktu.”

Growing up, Matty enjoyed singing duets with his sister to Katy Perry's songs, which sparked his passion for music. Now, the artist is performing solo, crafting his own lyrics filled with emotion and an uplifting sound. Like many contemporary musicians, he began sharing his work on TikTok. Initially, expressing himself online was intimidating, but that apprehension faded over time. His online experiments helped Matty discover what resonates with him both musically and emotionally. After composing numerous sorrowful love songs, he found those feelings were overwhelming, leading him to shift his focus toward infusing positivity into his lyrics.

Despite everyone facing challenges, Matty Reynolds puts a hopeful spin on his experiences. His forthcoming EP, Somebody Like Me, explores his deepest emotions and thoughts as he manages a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend. Even with the obstacles, Reynolds finds optimism in the strength of their bond. This set of uplifting love songs merges pop, folk rock, and Americana, motivating listeners to embrace the positive aspects of life. These elements are evident in Reynolds’ latest single, “Timbuktu.”

“Timbuktu” expresses that love transcends distance. As Reynolds shares with Atwood Magazine, “The song reflects how love's power overcomes the difficulties posed by distance. It’s particularly significant to me because it was crafted spontaneously, straight from my emotions—without overthinking.”

“I was on my way to visit my long-distance girlfriend when the verses came to me effortlessly, just as you hear them now, capturing the essence of being far apart yet knowing I would drive any distance to return to her.”

These lyrics emphasize that love can overcome anything—even physical separation. Though they might be miles apart, she always resides in his heart. The song's dedication and hopeful tone provide listeners with a glimmer of light amid darkness.

      New York to Timbuktu

All routes lead me back to you

      Wherever I am

      I’ll never be too far,

LA or out in the country

I’d drive all night to get my fix

      Wherever I stand

      I’ll never be too far

To return to where you are

Moving beyond the chorus, Matty Reynolds illustrates his willingness to go anywhere for their love. His commitment and affection are evident in this single as he expresses that he will follow her wherever she may be.

      From Mexico to the moon

      The furthest star to Malibu

      From heaven down to Tokyo

It doesn’t matter where I go

I’d learn to fly and commandeer a plane

And if I crash, I’d catch a train

      And if that train derails

I promise I’ll find my way back
