Billie Marten has unveiled her heartfelt new track ‘Leap Year’.
The artist is returning, with Billie Marten discovering renewal and something new in the tracklist of her forthcoming album ‘Dog Eared’.
Scheduled for release on July 18th, the album will feature a limited number of live performances, including a spot at Glastonbury.
The new song ‘Leap Year’ showcases the intricacy of her artistry, as Billie Marten uncovers subtlety within her rich sound palette. The title should be interpreted literally – the song was written on Leap Day last year while she was grappling with winter blues from her bed.
It serves as a humble starting point, with ‘Leap Year’ evolving into a narrative about love stretched to its limits – two lovers who can only reconnect once every four years.
Billie shares...
“I downloaded this app that serves as a digital version of an Optigan available on your phone. It contains pre-loaded sample sounds that you can play chord by chord. I combined some buttons and it turned into this song. It was created on a Leap Year, 29th February 2024, which inspired the title and concept. It's about two people who can reunite only every leap year; they have one day every four years. It's a song depicting fleeting love and the pain it can cause.”
