Norwegian artist Jenny Hval has released her new track ‘Lay down’.
The songwriter's upcoming album ‘Iris Silver Mist’ will be available on April 25th, published by the respected independent label 4AD. The final preview has now been unveiled, and ‘Lay down’ unmistakably reflects the unique artistry of Hval, with its delicate exploration of monochromatic themes and profound, illuminating lyrics.
This song navigates between the sensual and the nihilistic, presenting double meanings that seem to probe the Earth's surface.
“Lay down, down in the deep where your love comes from,” sings Jenny; oscillating between the themes of sexuality and mortality, she reflects: “You had bled through your jeans…”
Wrapped in a stark yet beautiful aesthetic, ‘Lay down’ poses significant questions about the emotional currents that resonate within our souls.
Jenny Hval remarks…
“We enter the album by lying down in our own grave, beneath the earth, akin to the root, which is the fragrant part of the iris. It would be the ideal moment and setting to enjoy music, wouldn't it? The fetus can perceive the tastes and smells of its mother’s food and hear sounds from outside the womb during the final months of pregnancy. Can a ghost in a coffin still hear the birds singing above?”
Tune in now.
