New Zealand band The Beths have joined ANTI-.
The group's unique sound infuses intelligent, often unconventional indie elements with vibrant pop, and their album 'Experts In A Dying Field' marked a significant breakthrough.
Following this success, the band revisited the record for a Deluxe Edition before finalizing a new record contract.
The Beths have signed with ANTI-, embarking on a new chapter with the band members – vocalist Elizabeth Stokes, guitarist Jonathan Pearce, bassist Benjamin Sinclair, and drummer Tristan Deck.
Leading the way is the jangle pop gem 'Metal' – a fresh single that features beautiful acoustic guitar chords and captures their lively energy during performances.
Lyrically, it strikes a balance between light and dark, as Elizabeth Stokes uses 'Metal' to express the effects of touring, struggles with mental health, and physical health challenges.
“In some respects, ‘Metal’ is a song about being alive and experiencing life within a human body,” she shares. “I’ve been particularly aware of this over the last several years, as I’ve been on what could be described as a ‘health journey’. For certain periods during this time, I felt as if my body was a vehicle that had served me well but was now malfunctioning, something I had limited control over. The odds of all the actions in the Rube Goldberg machine of life occurring are so unlikely, and yet here we are experiencing it. I have a longing and curiosity to explore the world around me and to learn about myself. Despite the feeling that my body resembles a broken machine, I still find wonder in its complexity.”
“I can acknowledge this truth while also looking in the mirror and thinking ‘you are worthless’ or ‘ugly’ or ‘disgraced’. I can instantly respond to any proposition that I might accomplish even the smallest task with a firm ‘no’. These sentiments echo the ‘short word’ mentioned in the song.”
“The original demo's acoustic strumming pattern had a certain drive. Tristan’s drumming complements that perfectly, evoking the sensation of a train moving along the tracks. Jonathan was able to play his Burns 12-string guitar in a bright manner, and as always, Ben can’t be restricted to just the bass line. We ultimately created an arrangement that captures the chaotic complexity of a machine in motion. There’s a lot happening, until suddenly there’s not.”
Tune in now.
