Mike Peters of The Alarm has passed away.

The BBC confirmed the news of the Welsh musician's death just moments ago, citing multiple sources. Mike Peters was 66 years old and had been receiving treatment for cancer.

A complete statement was shared on The Alarm's social media platforms.

The Alarm emerged as punk's fervor began to fade, seeking to infuse the movement's nihilism with a sense of social responsibility. They debuted in 1981 and advocated for their independence, with singles like ‘Sixty Eight Guns’ bringing socially conscious themes into the mainstream.

After being invited to tour with U2, their powerful live sound drew significant attention, establishing a large fan base in both the U.S. and the U.K.

The band achieved considerable success throughout the 1980s, culminating the decade with a Welsh-language version of their 1989 album ‘Change,’ titled ‘Newid.’

In the 1990s, Mike Peters embarked on a solo career, but a cancer diagnosis in 1995 altered his life significantly. Battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he became a pioneering advocate for cancer awareness, working to highlight the experiences of cancer patients while raising substantial funds.

Alongside his wife, he co-founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation, using live performances to encourage people to register as bone marrow donors—a critical need.

Last year, Mike Peters informed fans that he had been diagnosed with cancer again, stating:

"Cancer has been chasing me for 29 years now, and during that time, I've managed to outrun the disease and stay alive. My focus and determination remain unchanged, and I'm resolved to keep pushing forward to stay one step ahead and continue my life as a husband, father, and musician as soon as possible."

Unfortunately, that was not to be. In 2017, he shared with Guitar World magazine that his "simple message" was "to stay alive and appreciate every second you've got."

"Live right up to the last breath and maintain a positive outlook on the world, your family, and the environment around you."
