Massive Attack has released a statement in support of Kneecap.
The Belfast group recently performed in the United States, delivering two sets at Coachella. Consistently provocative, the screens behind Kneecap displayed the message “F*ck Israel Free Palestine” at the peak of their performances, which resulted in an immediate backlash.
Sharon Osbourne called for the revocation of Kneecap's American visa, while past footage of the band apparently urging for the deaths of Tory MPs sparked a media frenzy in the UK.
The Eden Project removed Kneecap from their schedule, and several concerts in Germany were canceled; Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney also requested that the Glasgow festival TRNSMT drop the rap group.
In response, Massive Attack has come forward to express their support. The Bristol band has long backed the Palestinian cause and frequently contribute money from their efforts to organizations on the ground.
The trip-hop group criticized Israel's "illegal occupation, apartheid system, and the impunity with which thousands of Palestinians are killed." They noted that due to their previous inquiries into this issue, they are “hyper aware of both the human cost of utter political silence and the commercial repercussions of publicly showcasing solidarity with an oppressed group.”

Massive Attack then raised concerns about the nature of the backlash, stating:
“But do politicians and right-wing journalists who are strategically fabricating moral outrage over the on-stage words of a young punk band, while simultaneously obscuring or even neglecting a genocide occurring in real time (including the unprecedented killing of journalists), have any right to intimidate festival events into political censorship? Kneecap are not the focus. Gaza is the focus. Genocide is the focus.”
In conclusion, Massive Attack condemned the British government’s “silence, acquiescence, and support for those crimes against humanity,” declaring this to be “the real story.”
“Solidarity with all artists who possess the moral courage to stand against Israeli war crimes, and the ongoing persecution and slaughter of the Palestinian people.”
