Home Counties have made their return with new music, their first since the debut album 'Exactly As It Seems' released last year. The latest track, 'Spain,' signals an exciting new direction for the London-based six-piece. Produced by Al Doyle (from Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem), the single is a tightly wound piece that blends persistent instrumentation with darker, more intricate lyrics, drawing inspiration from the theme of a British expat living in Europe. “It’s about aging and the fear of becoming someone you might not want to be, or the person you might already be,” explained vocalist Will Harrison. He continued, “The song uses the concept of a British expat in Spain as a representation of the anxieties surrounding loss of self-awareness and societal concern as one drifts further into individualism with age (essentially, the fear of leaning more right-wing). However, by the end, it envisions waking up as a retiree in Spain and realizing it may not be so terrible after all. There's a feeling of ‘if this is what moral decline feels like, I'm all in!’”
'Spain' is the first single from Home Counties' forthcoming second album, which has yet to have its details fully revealed. What is known is that the entire record was produced by Doyle and that 'Spain,' according to the band, “captures the next chapter of Home Counties.” Stay tuned for updates… Additionally, Home Counties will be touring festivals throughout the Summer before starting a headline tour across the UK in the Autumn.
