Queens Of The Stone Age reveal Alive in the Catacombs concert film.

Queens Of The Stone Age have announced the release of Alive in the Catacombs - a groundbreaking concert film that captures the band's performance without an audience in the underground tunnels of Paris, the final resting place for millions. Set to premiere on June 5th, the film showcases the first live concert ever held in the catacombs, a performance by QOTSA recorded in a single take (with no edits or overdubs). The band thoughtfully created their setlist to cover their entire discography, reinterpreting each song specifically for the stunning environment. “If you’re ever going to be haunted, being surrounded by several million dead people is the place,” Josh Homme remarked about the project, which he had envisioned since visiting the passages 20 years ago. “I’ve never felt so welcome in my life.” He added, “We’re very stripped down because that location is so bare... It would be absurd to try to rock there. All those decisions were influenced by that space. That space controls everything; you follow its lead when you’re inside.” Furthermore, the city of Paris has never previously allowed any artist to perform in these sacred tunnels - until now. Discussing the decision to permit QOTSA's performance, the catacombs’ Hélène Furminieux stated: “It is crucial for us that artists engage with this environment and provide a sensitive interpretation of it. Going underground and facing thoughts on death can be a profoundly intense experience. Josh seems to have fully grasped the potential of this place with his body and soul. The recordings harmonize perfectly with the mystery, history, and deep introspection, particularly noticeable in the subtle use of silence within the Catacombs.” Queens Of The Stone Age: Alive In The Catacombs will be available for rent or purchase through qotsa.com. You can also get a retrospective edition of our 2023 print magazine that covers QOTSA here, and watch the exciting trailer for the film below.
