The Sherlocks – Everything Must Add Up

Sun-kissed and victorious, ‘Everything Must Make Sense,’ the latest release from The Sherlocks, represents their most impressive work to date. The fifth studio album from the Yorkshire band is a bold representation brimming with confidence and flair.

‘Everything Must Make Sense’ signifies a notable development in their sound, particularly in their songwriting, which explores themes like mental health, relationships, finding one's place in life, and the daily struggles people face.

Bright and anthemic, The Sherlocks establish their intent right from the first note of the electrifying title track, ‘Everything Must Make Sense,’ featuring punchy guitars reminiscent of a blend between The Strokes and the early Stereophonics. Its driving groove is poised to be the soundtrack of the summer and is teeming with energy.

Filled with swagger, confidence, and sunlit anthems, ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ encapsulates the excitement of The Sherlocks' live performances and highlights how seamlessly they’ve created a stadium-sized sound in their recordings.

The powerful track ‘How Are You Feeling’ provides a raw and unyielding glimpse into a toxic relationship on the verge of collapse, viewed through the perspective of a weary onlooker. It lays bare the delusion of attempting to revive love through misguided efforts like having children to cover up the flaws.

Sharp-witted and incisive, particularly in the memorable line ‘She’s been living in your head so long she’ll have to pay some rent!’ ‘How Are You Feeling’ skillfully merges humor and heartbreak, with its incisive lyrics and emotional honesty turning the song into less of a break-up anthem and more of an analysis of a relationship that should have ended long ago.

The captivating synth-driven melodies of the lively ‘Death Of Me’ are both dynamic and dramatic, urging listeners to ‘go all out.’ The band has infused their vibrant synth-pop style with the energy of their guitar-laden indie rock, featuring shimmering riffs, driving bass lines, and irresistible hooks.

From the electrifying ‘Death of Me’ with its punchy guitars to the soaring ‘Man on the Loose’ with its catchy chorus, the entire album is filled with massive anthems that pulse with energy and intensity, showcased by the driving hooks of ‘Bedlam Town’ and the uplifting melody of the poignant ‘Tough Times Don’t Last.’

‘Bones’ is energetic and confident, with frontman Kiaran claiming it sounds like ‘if Prodigy and Primal Scream had a baby, it’s a monster!’ and he’s right; it stands out as one of the album's highlights. Anthemic, spirited, and life-affirming, ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ is The Sherlocks' most assured, intricately crafted, and accomplished album to date. If ‘everything does make sense,’ it could potentially fulfill their long-held dream of achieving their first number one album—something they would thoroughly deserve.
