Barry Can’t Swim graces the cover of DIY’s 2025 Festival Guide!

Anyone who attended Glastonbury last summer felt the excitement surrounding Barry Can’t Swim. Following his Mercury Prize-nominated debut ‘When Will We Land?’, his performance at Worthy Farm last year was unforgettable, leading to the entire Park Field being closed off after his show. If that doesn’t get you thrilled about his return to festival season this summer - with a new album to boot! - we’re not sure what will. Before the release of his second album ‘Loner’ and amidst his busy live schedule, which includes a major appearance at this year’s All Points East, we chatted with the Scottish producer to learn more. If, as he states, “the album is completely an expression of my past year,” it’s apparent that his rapid rise to fame has experienced some challenges, hence the title ‘Loner’. “Honestly, I’ve been a bit unsure about being truthful regarding the album title,” he candidly admits in our cover feature. “Because it really frustrates me when people with so much go on about how tough their life is.” Still, he confesses, “over the last year, I began to feel quite detached from myself. To process everything and cope with the imposter syndrome that came with stepping onto a stage in front of large crowds, I distanced myself from what I was actually doing.” In the rest of this extensive issue, we gear up for festival season in our signature style: by gathering many of our favorite artists and asking them what to expect. Flip through to enjoy discussions with festival favorites Sprints, DEADLETTER, and Panic Shack, along with a special chat with Ezra Furman about her tenth album and its exciting live presentation. Additionally, we provide a helpful guide for last-minute festival essentials, share our top recommendations for emerging artists to catch before they blow up, and reveal our comprehensive index of the best events to attend this summer.
