After spending the last few weeks teasing fans with glimpses of their much-anticipated new track, Wolf Alice has now - at long last! - released ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ to the public. Additionally, the single is paired with the exciting announcement that the band’s fourth album, ‘The Clearing’, will be released on 29th August through their new label, Sony Music. Composed in North London and recorded in LA with Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin, the upcoming LP will serve as the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Blue Weekend’ - a record that DIY described as “a history-book cementing document of a band at the peak of their powers.” ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ marks the first new material from the iconic four-piece in four years, and it's clear that Wolf Alice is making their return with an abundance of energy, style, and ambition.
“I wanted a rock song that emphasizes the performance aspect of rock music and to sing like Axl Rose, but about being a woman,” said frontwoman Ellie Rowsell regarding the lead single. “I've previously used the guitar as a shield, possibly as a way to push back against the ‘girl singer in a band’ stereotype, but I wanted to emphasize my voice as a rock instrument. It’s been liberating to put the guitar down and reach a place where I don’t feel I need to prove myself as a musician.”
In addition, ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ is accompanied by an unapologetic video directed by Colin Solal Cardo (known for work with Charli xcx, Robyn, Christine & The Queens). Drawing inspiration from Bob Fosse and All That Jazz, it presents a theatrical and joyous visual experience, with Ellie herself at the heart of the choreography.
