Kate Nash has just released a new single, and she is not holding back in conveying a message. ‘GERM’, launched through Kill Rock Stars, addresses the issue of transphobia. “’GERM’ is my reaction to the recent Supreme Court ruling defining a woman based on biological sex, asserting that sex is binary. Trans individuals were left out of this discussion,” Nash shares regarding the significance of her impactful track. “Using feminism to negate the rights of others is fundamentally un-feminist,” she continues. “Demonizing entire groups of people, driven by insincere actors, is not progress; it’s a regressive echo of a past we should have left behind. I owe a lot of my identity to feminism. To tarnish the most significant ideology in my life by denying the existence of trans women is deeply personal to me.” “To deny the existence of trans people and seek to eliminate them from public spaces because their presence discomforts you is transphobic,” Nash asserts. “At the heart of feminism is the dismantling of oppressive systems. If you hold transphobic views, then you are not a feminist. Welcome to your rebranding, GERM,” she adds. The singer of ‘Foundations’, fresh from a sold-out tour in the UK and EU, has consistently highlighted the shortcomings within the music industry. Now, she is eager to bring attention to societal failures as well. The new track is accompanied by a striking lyric video that emphasizes the song's message, featuring a figure bathed in red. Nash is set to debut the track at Mighty Hoopla this weekend, accompanied by The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Listen to ‘GERM’ here:
