London-based artist Delilah Holliday has collaborated with Tampa's progressive-rap duo They Hate Change (Vonne Parks and Andre Gainey) on a double single, ‘Eyes On You’ and ‘Life’s So Strange’, released through One Little Independent Records.
Both tracks, produced by Raphael Ninot, navigate the same atmospheric world-building while featuring different tempos, immersing listeners in the transatlantic sphere of two genre-blending artists.
On the driving track ‘Eyes On You’, Delilah’s ethereal vocals merge with Vonne and Dre’s intimate rap lines. This tonal contrast enhances the track’s central theme: the challenges of creativity in the age of social media, especially its susceptibility to stalking and imitation. Conversely, the synthetic mid-tempo piece ‘Life’s So Strange’ delves into themes of letting go, adapting to challenges, and dealing with life’s uncertainties.
Regarding their collaboration with the Florida duo, Delilah shares: “I discovered their song ‘From the Floor’ and was drawn to their flow and sound. It turned out that Vonne was a big admirer of Skinny Girl Diet. When they toured in London, we connected at a Carnival afterparty and immediately clicked. We scheduled a studio session for the next day and wrote and recorded two tracks on the spot.”
They Hate Change elaborates: “Delilah’s lyrics provided us with a strong base to rap about our observations in the industry over the past few years – some interesting moments, but mostly a lot of showmanship and pretense. Each of our verses serves as a declaration of new policies; no more playing nice with individuals who aren’t advancing the art, both locally and globally.”
In 2023, Delilah signed with One Little Independent Records and released the two EPs that make up her ‘Invaluable’ mixtape. They Hate Change launched their album ‘Finally, New’ in 2023, followed by their ‘Wish You Were Here…’ EP the following year.
