"The universal loneliness we all experience..."
Medium Build returns with a new single titled ‘Drug Dealer.’
The rapidly emerging pop artist recently released his ‘takeaways’ EP, featuring a collection of songs that had been kept in his studio. This assortment of personal messages strengthened the connection between the artist and his audience, fostering a unique form of communication.
Now available, ‘Drug Dealer’ continues this theme of personal disclosure, addressing the subject of isolation through a pop sound.
In the studio, Medium Build uses the track to delve into his own identity and sexuality.
‘Drug Dealer’ discusses “the universal loneliness that everyone feels,” according to Nick Carpentera, known as Medium Build. “I often find myself drawn to strangers in my life. Whether it’s the friendly flight attendant or the curt barista, there's something perfect about our mutual ignorance of each other. As I grew older and the loneliness in my life became clearer, the urge to fill that gap with the admiration or acceptance of a stranger intensified. I've spent a lifetime searching for someone to rescue me. Yet, deep down, we understand that no one can truly fill that emptiness except ourselves. I hope this song encourages self-love. I'm currently on that journey of loving myself.”
“I believe my sexuality always felt like something I needed to validate before I could fully recognize myself as part of a community. With time and exploration, I've come to understand that while experience is a fantastic teacher, it shouldn't determine our belonging. We all breathe, struggle, and cry together until we no longer do. Embrace what makes you unique, but find comfort in our shared humanity. Engage with your drug dealer, or choose not to. Have children, or opt out. We're in this together! And sadly, we share more similarities with our adversaries than we do differences.”
