Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson has passed away.

Brian Wilson, the iconic figure from the Beach Boys, has passed away.

This news was shared in an official statement posted on his social media channels just moments ago. Brian Wilson was 82 years old.

A key figure in shaping and transforming modern pop music, Brian Wilson’s life was filled with music, though he struggled with mental health challenges. As the creative leader of the Beach Boys, he brought West Coast surf culture to a global audience, merging doo-wop harmonies with rock ‘n’ roll beats.

As the 1960s progressed, Brian Wilson became fascinated with the potential of recording studios. Choosing not to tour with the Beach Boys, he centered his efforts on their studio work, expanding on the achievements of contemporaries like Phil Spector while taking their sound to uncharted territories.

This creative peak was exemplified by the Beach Boys’ album ‘Pet Sounds,’ which is frequently recognized as a pivotal release of the 1960s and one of the greatest albums of all time.

Against the backdrop of critical skepticism, he achieved remarkable success with the 1966 hit ‘Good Vibrations’—recorded for a then-astronomical studio cost—while his health suffered from excessive drug use and enduring trauma that stifled his creativity.

The subsequent decades are marked by a mix of half-truths and myth, but it can be said they were not particularly happy times for him. However, as the new millennium approached, Brian Wilson’s health and performance abilities notably improved, leading to extensive tours characterized by the joyful connection between him and his audience.

He completed the long-rumored ‘Smile’ project, and his life inspired the biopic ‘Love & Mercy,’ with him touring nearly up until his passing.

In a brief statement, his family expressed:

We are heartbroken to share that our cherished father Brian Wilson has passed away.

We are at a loss for words at this moment.

We kindly ask for privacy during this time as our family mourns.

We understand that our grief is shared with the world.

      Love & Mercy
