London interdisciplinary artist Joviale is set to release their debut album ‘Mount Crystal’ on September 12th through Ghostly International.
Crafted during intense jam sessions with trusted collaborators such as John Carroll Kirby, Jkarri, and Kwaku Konadu, ‘Mount Crystal’ delves deeper into the emotional turmoil and romantic drama that Joviale explored in their 2021 EP ‘Hurricane Belle’.
In ‘Mount Crystal’, Joviale transitions from a background figure to the focal point, navigating between theatrical metaphor and raw reality. The album draws inspiration from influential creators like Prince and David Lynch, incorporating musical influences from Sade, Kate Bush, Janet Jackson, Todd Rundgren, 1960s girl groups, Japanese composers, and the “eccentric personalities and divas of the ‘80s… glamorous rock’n’roll, Rick James, Prince, Quincy.”
Reflecting on the album's connection to era-defining artists who emphasized playful ambition and confidence, Joviale states:
“The narrative of Mount Crystal is fueled by the essence of desire, danger, and desperation. It's a mirrored realm in a distant reality where nothing remains unspoken. These chapters seek to dismantle the illusion of pleasure by transforming the relentless pain I’ve faced in my attempts to love, reject, and welcome the sweetest melodies alongside the sweetest friends.”
Following the prelude single ‘Moonshine’, Joviale presents another preview with the vibrant jazz-funk track ‘HARK!’ — a release that captures the organized chaos that lies at the heart of the album.
Joviale has announced a series of in-store events across the UK this September. Additionally, they have been invited to join Nourished By Time as a special guest on his UK and European tour in November, which includes a performance in London at Electric Brixton on November 20th.
Tune in now.
