The Wicklow quartet Florence Road balances delicately between softness and intensity – imagine the electric edge of Wolf Alice, the dramatic style of The Last Dinner Party, and the pop-infused ferocity of Olivia Rodrigo, all combined into one unique sound. Lily Alon’s voice teeters on the brink of control, effortlessly transitioning between raw emotion and ethereal lightness, delivering every word of their candid lyrics with conviction. The track ‘Figure It Out’ particularly echoes Rodrigo’s influence, as Lily’s vocals build to a crescendo, propelled by gritty guitars and pounding drums that lead to a glittery grunge breakdown. On ‘BREAK THE GIRL’, they fully embrace pop, even incorporating a “la la la” singalong at the end, although a wild guitar solo brings it back from being overly sweet. The highlight, however, is ‘Caterpillar’, a flowing, symphonic slow-build where her seasoned voice expands into a bold orchestral rise. It’s brave, layered, and remarkably mature for their age. There are moments where their sound reveals its youth—tracks like ‘Goodnight’ and the chorus of ‘BREAK THE GIRL’ rely a bit too much on pop simplicity—but there’s no doubt that Florence Road is on the verge of something truly remarkable. The ambition in their sound is evident.

DE’WAYNE enters a daring new phase with “june,” a fiery, genre-blurring anthem that transforms a love song into one of liberation. A blend of punk and funk with an undeniable energy, it represents a spiritual awakening cloaked in the excitement of a lively night out, honoring divine femininity, radical openness, and the exhilarating experience of falling deeply in love.
Balancing on the brink of something exceptionally brilliant.
