Gary Numan Reveals ‘A Perfect Circle: Live’

      11 · 06 · 2025

Gary Numan is set to release his new album ‘A Perfect Circle: Live’ on July 25th.

This forthcoming concert album captures his performance at London’s OVO Arena Wembley in 2022, a location with which he has a long-standing connection.

In 1981, Gary Numan became disenchanted with fame and the pressures of the music industry, leading to his decision to ‘retire’ from live performances after three sold-out shows at the venue.

However, he soon reconsidered this decision, although it took him 40 years to return to the OVO Arena Wembley.

Documented for future generations, ‘A Perfect Circle: Live’ will be available on July 25th and is currently available for pre-order online.

In introducing the release, Gary Numan shares…

When I temporarily retired from live performances back in 1981 at Wembley Arena, I undoubtedly caused significant harm to my career. The motivations behind that break were valid and essential. In fact, I seriously doubt I would be here writing this if I hadn’t taken that step. Yet, that decision lingered with me for a long time. The ambition to restore my career to a level where I could perform at Wembley again became a goal that lasted forty-one years. Performing there became a symbol – the symbol – of that recovery. More so than chart success or anything else. Over the years, I often pondered if that moment would ever arrive.

So, when it finally occurred in May 2022, I was hit with a surge of emotions, many of which I wasn’t ready for. It was a wonderful moment, a triumph of perseverance and absurd optimism. It was the reward for all the disappointments encountered along the way. For some artists, performing there might just be a warm-up for something larger, but for me, it meant everything. It was undeniable evidence that although I had fallen from the peak – or more accurately, had jumped off – all those years ago, I had painstakingly made my way back up. Before the show, I cried like a baby, overwhelmed by the moment, filled with joy, and aware that I could still ruin it all. I was anxious about possibly tarnishing the moment I had envisioned for decades. But that worry was unnecessary. The audience uplifted me – carried me – through every remarkable second. I don't think I've ever felt so happy or grateful. Thank you to everyone who attended and to all those who have supported me along the way, for making it one of the greatest moments of my life.

It’s a significant summer for Gary Numan, who will also make his debut performance at Glastonbury at the end of this month – catch him on the Park Stage on June 28th.
