Since her early days as a young singer in Birmingham, England, Victoria “Taura” Lamb has refined her diverse skills: harmonizing, vocal arranging, and conveying emotions through song. Since September 2024, Lamb has released a series of EPs that explore various narratives and feelings.
From ‘Tetchy’ to ‘Teary’, ‘Sultry’, and now ‘Sunny’, these EPs represent a collection of the different moods Lamb is working to acknowledge and express. In a time when many are acting as A&R professionals and playlist curators, Taura Lamb is connecting with us where we are. Each EP is a well-crafted blend of style, color, and emotion, highlighting Lamb's remarkable talent for transforming a memory or feeling into a vivid experience.
The aptly named ‘Moods’ series builds on the self-reflection she delved into on her debut album ‘Revisions’. “For me, ‘Moods’ is about drawing inspiration from everyday moments instead of waiting for something significant to write about,” Lamb shares. “It’s about tuning into your emotions and embracing them, rather than brushing them aside. Plus, listeners can enjoy the EPs without having to skip a random club hit when they want to cry themselves to sleep or avoid an emotional song while entertaining a date over drinks.”
Kicking off with the energetic vibe of ‘Tetchy’, moving through the raw honesty of ‘Teary’, and the enchanting magnetism of ‘Sultry’, Lamb concludes ‘Moods’ on a high note with ‘Sunny’; a joyful soundtrack for her brightest days, reminding us that despite any challenges, our happiness will resurface, just like the sunrise.
The opening track ‘straighten my curls’ serves not just as a tribute to that special someone who appreciates you just as you are, but also as an empowering message of self-acceptance. It encourages loving what you see in the mirror, along with the curls, curves, and authenticity that accompany it. ‘straighten my curls’ is a jubilant affirmation, inspired by a memory Lamb shares about her fiancé. “My fiancé dislikes it when I straighten my curls,” Lamb discloses. “I recently encountered the concept of the ‘curly hair theory’; the idea that when you’re genuinely comfortable and in love, you stop altering small details about yourself and present your true, natural self.” The pressures of social media can distort reality, but Lamb highlights the beauty in our authenticity and the divinity in our individuality.
The closing track ‘Lucky’, characterized by its lively tempo, evokes the infectious spirit of a Tori Kelly song. Similar to Kelly, Taura Lamb subtly showcases her vocal talent, while her upbeat pop melodies encourage listeners to sing along. The song encapsulates fulfillment and gratitude, with Lamb’s beautiful harmonies guiding us to the conclusion of ‘Sunny’, reminiscent of the credits at the end of a movie.
‘Sunny’ serves as the vibrant and uplifting finale to the ‘Moods’ series. It reminds us that our light can never truly fade – we simply need to allow it the space to shine once more. It provides a delightful soundtrack for summer and offers an exciting glimpse into the diverse sounds of Taura Lamb.
