MidWest newcomers Good Flying Birds have released their new single ‘Eric’s Eyes’.
Earlier this year, the band made waves with the limited edition cassette Talulah’s Tape, which gained attention in the underground scene in the U.S. Their songwriting incorporates various influences, blending charming Sarah Records indie pop with gritty American counterparts.
Now signed to Carpark Records, their latest single ‘Eric’s Eyes’ marks another step in their ascent.
The track features elements reminiscent of Guided By Voices’ lo-fi pop, alongside the early sounds of Beat Happening, or the sweet urgency of Talulah Gosh and The Vaselines.
This signals a significant moment for indie pop in the U.S., particularly centered around San Francisco, where a collection of artists is revitalizing the genre.
Kellen Baker, the frontman of Good Flying Birds, reflects on the track:
“Has the world grown tired of silly love songs?? We’re asking again. It was written and recorded quickly during a rainy autumn night. A completely absurd moment of innocent infatuation seen through the lens of chaotic planets, early My Bloody Valentine, and rocket ships, or at least that was the aim.”
