Ken Woods Explores History in His First Album, 'Silent Spike'

A groundbreaking and deeply personal glimpse...

Ken Woods is changing direction with the upcoming release of his debut album, ‘Silent Spike’.

This raw compilation of tracks offers a cohesive conceptual experience, showcasing the American composer, musician, and conductor's roots-rock project, The Old Blue Gang. Throughout the album, Woods explores the overlooked stories of the ‘Railroad Chinese’, a group of approximately 15,000 migrant workers who constructed the Transcontinental Railroad between 1863 and 1869.

Known for his role as Artistic Director of the English Symphony Orchestra and MahlerFest, Ken Woods approaches his art with keen intuition, infusing his vision across a wide range of styles, genres, and influences. The featured track, ‘Steel Stretcher,’ is an immersive and dynamic piece of songwriting that melds rock ’n roll, blues, country, and folk music. Lyrically, Woods presents his most introspective work to date, offering an inventive reflection on the past that resonates deeply.
