London's future-pop innovator Babymorocco has unveiled the deluxe edition of his debut album, titled ‘Amour: The Jean Paul Deluxe’, through New York’s True Panther Records.
Where last year’s ‘Amour’ showcased an array of trashy proto-EDM, trap-pop, 4-Beat, and Euro-dance, the four-track prelude ‘Jean Paul’ features Belfast’s MMMouth and the Buenos Aires duo EQ. The persona that was hinted at is now a comprehensive expression of the concealed, neglected aspects of Babymorocco’s musical identity.
Drawing inspiration from performance artists like Nikki S. Lee, who immersed herself in various subcultures to become part of them, Babymorocco presents ‘Jean Paul’ as a mix of self-obliteration and self-augmentation.
Regarding the addition to the ‘Amour’ phase, Babymorocco states:
“I've been developing the character of Jean Paul for a while now. He’s a representation, a persona, a dissociative fantasy—both a refuge and a focus. He embodies everything Babymorocco isn't permitted to be. Jean Paul is more delicate, erratic, effeminate, and romantic. People often assign characters to me, so I've started creating them myself.
Jean Paul allows me to explore a more intense version of the emotional realms I couldn’t entirely reach as Babymorocco. The deluxe edition serves as a sort of psychological blueprint: Jean Paul as an alter ego, a specter in the club mirror, the wistful dancer twirling under the strobe lights. If they dislike Babymorocco, perhaps they'll embrace Jean Paul.”
Babymorocco is scheduled to headline a special show in London at Village Underground on November 28th. Purchase tickets here.
