Tough Cookie had a packed weekend – performing at an East London block party, unveiling a new single, and outlining plans for a mixtape.
Nonetheless, the indie group is taking it all in stride as they grow their dedicated fanbase show by show.
They've been signed by the influential label Gravity Records – known for artists like Divorce and Fiona-Lee – with their new mixtape titled ‘The Countryside Is Good For You’ set to drop on October 10th.
It will be available in both digital format and on 12-inch vinyl, and you can order it online now.
In a brief statement, the band shares that the mixtape “offers an honest reflection on navigating moments of vulnerability, disconnection, and escapism; it's a process of self-discovery amid chaos, starting from a place of sincerity…”
The title track serves as an energizing indie anthem, with a 90s production style highlighting Tough Cookie’s melodic flair. The contrast between the vibrant dynamics of the full band and the poignant lyrics creates something remarkable, capturing the essence of their live performances.
The single “reflects on the conflict between the urge to escape and the sense of being trapped. It serves as introspection on my disconnection from society, shifting self-image, and the loss of innocence.”
