The debut album 'no scope' will be released on September 26th.
Los Angeles duo crushed has unveiled their latest single, ‘cwtch’.
This single offers a preview of their upcoming LP ‘no scope,’ which is set to drop on September 26th through Ghostly International, following the initial track ‘starburn.’
‘cwtch’ highlights its Welsh-language definition: a refuge. The song brings forth warmth and whimsical synth elements, featuring Shaun Durkan prominently while Bre Morell enhances the radiant soundscape with her ethereal background vocals.
Reflecting on a single created during tumultuous times, Durkan states:
“‘cwtch’ is a Welsh term for an embrace that conveys warmth and safety, a secure place. I penned the song during a time when I was genuinely battling with ‘living life on life’s terms.’ It was a period where discovering new coping mechanisms for tough emotions felt monumental, and resorting to self-destructive habits seemed like returning to familiar ground.”
Morell and Durkan began the recording process for the album remotely, alternating sessions between their homes and the studio of co-producer/mixer Jorge Elbrecht, marking a first for them after self-producing previously. Elbrecht contributed his skilled sense of melody and structure (having worked with artists like Japanese Breakfast, Hatchie, and Weyes Blood), aiding them in refining numerous demos.
More of a culmination than a mere debut, ‘no scope’ delves into the duo’s evolving synergy, broadening their musical style to encompass trip-hop, Britpop, electronica, and ’90s alternative radio influences.
