Atlanta artist Father has released an impressive new project titled ‘Patricide.’

As the founder of Awful Records, one of the most enduring hip-hop collectives in the U.S. since the 21st century, Father is a key creative force. He dropped this succinct yet remarkable release over the weekend.

Available now, ‘Patricide’ moves through the same shadowy tones that birthed Massive Attack’s ‘Mezzanine’ or Tricky’s ‘Maxinquaye’, blending a Bristolian sound with his Atlanta perspective.

This captivating project features 10 tracks, with the opener ‘My chain is cursed’ sampling the same Billy Cobham tune that underpinned Massive Attack’s ‘Safe From Harm,’ while uncovering new dimensions in that sonic framework.

The lyric ‘Silly rabbit, when you met me I was slime’ maintains this theme of abstract sound, yet the project also shifts gears, with ‘It was by design’ bringing Father back to his Atlanta DIY roots.

Clocking in at just 22 minutes, ‘Patricide’ feels more significant than its brief duration may imply – a robust showcase of audio mastery, showcasing Father at his most distinctive.
