"We’re so in tune with each other. We spend a lot of time together and collaborate closely, which seeps into every aspect."
— Heide Peverelle
Their straightforward storytelling ability has grown over the last five years since they formed the band at 17. Heide mentions that they were just searching for a reason to “hang out and avoid schoolwork.” Gracie recalls, “Guitars kept appearing, and we found ourselves singing more and more. It created a truly beautiful environment for vulnerability, intimacy, and trust.” This closeness shines through in their debut album, where they effortlessly alternate between lead vocals and guitar playing. The result is a relaxed and well-balanced performance, all authentically recorded on tape. “You enter the studio in the morning, switch on the tape machine, and wait for it to warm up—it has such a great smell,” Jeanie reminisces.
Putting aside the romantic aspect, why opt for a less convenient method for recording? “It’s about letting go of perfection,” Heide explains. “It keeps you fully present and captures the essence of the moment. The lack of immediate gratification reduces the urge to overindulge.” This is evident in the album’s raw singles— the pleasantly mellow ‘The Actor’, ‘Cathode Ray’, and ‘Moth Song’— where their voices blend so naturally it feels like they are siblings. “We understand each other's vocal styles, so I know what you’re going to do next,” Heide remarks, glancing at her bandmates. “We’re so in tune with each other. Our time spent together and close collaboration influences everything.”
With such a strong connection at their core, the band's cherished moments stem from their experiences as friends rather than their professional milestones. “It’s the adventures we’ve shared and the people we've encountered,” Jeanie says, reflecting on their growing highlight reel. “It’s hard to articulate because many of the experiences weren’t planned but still felt like checking something off a bucket list.”
However, despite the adventures and side projects, creating music remains their central passion. “It’s our entire lives,” Heide expresses simply, “it’s always been there and always will be.”
