Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty has released her latest single ‘Lucky’, featuring up-and-coming R&B artist Shantel May.
Following Haviah’s recent tracks ‘Double the Fun’ and ‘OK!’, ‘Lucky’ is a powerful RnB-rap collaboration that showcases two of the city’s most captivating voices, drawing on classic boom bap, live instruments, and harmonious interplay.
The song explores the theme of mutual appreciation in a relationship where both partners recognize their luck in having one another, yet ponder if that gratitude is genuinely acknowledged. While it continues to reflect themes of self-love and inner worth, the track also expresses a desire for validation from others.
Regarding the track, Haviah states: “When this combination is right… any connection feels magical. Lucky, even.”
Haviah Mighty debuted with her work on ‘13th Floor’ in 2019, which addressed the deep-rooted traumas of her ancestors. In 2023, she released her latest mixtape ‘Crying Crystals’, providing a more introspective version of her life story.
Haviah made history as the first woman to win the JUNO (akin to a Grammy) for Best Rap Album/EP of the Year with her 2021 mixtape ‘Stock Exchange’.
